🐐 Homestead Animal Coordinator

Part-Time | $15–$17/hour | Tiskilwa, IL | Housing Option Possible

Bring joy to guests and regeneration to the land—one goat snuggle and duck waddle at a time.

👋 WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Do you love animals and people? Are you passionate about small-scale, regenerative livestock systems—but also light up when you get to share what you’re learning with others?

Hungry World Farm is looking for a Homestead Animal Education Manager who can design and care for a friendly, educational menagerie of animals while creating meaningful, hands-on experiences for guests of all ages.

This role blends animal care, regenerative land stewardship, and guest interaction in a highly visible and relational space on the farm. You’ll help create an accessible animal area filled with charm, integrity, and purpose. Guests might feed a goat, meet a duck, or simply watch chickens scratch and pigs root—all while learning how these animals support ecological health.

If you're the kind of person who always ends up giving an impromptu farm tour, loves sharing homesteading tips, and sees animals as powerful teachers of connection, healing, and humility—this might be your dream job.

🌱 ABOUT HUNGRY WORLD FARM

Hungry World Farm is a 175-acre nonprofit regenerative farm in Tiskilwa, Illinois. Our mission is to heal the world through regenerative agriculture, reconnect people to land and food, and help guests experience what right relationship with creation looks like.

We welcome thousands of visitors annually—through farmstays, tours, workshops, and community events. Our land includes forest, prairie, silvopasture, and market garden systems—all integrated with food production, education, and restoration.

We’re not just growing food—we’re growing a movement rooted in stewardship, hospitality, diversity, and hope.

🌻 CULTURE & COMMUNITY

We believe the work is only sustainable if the culture is.

We are not a corporate environment. We’re a values-based farm community where people matter, diversity is welcomed, and relationships are just as important as responsibilities. People thrive here when they:

  • Care deeply about the mission and land
  • Enjoy building meaningful connections with their team
  • Want both freedom to lead and responsibility to deliver
  • Show up cheerful, generous, and open to growth

We say thank you. We check in. We celebrate each other’s wins and pitch in when it’s hard. Living on the farm, you’ll be part of a team building process—a shared journey of learning, understanding one another, and practicing what it means to live and work well together.

This position is ideal for someone living on-farm, potentially with a partner involved in another enterprise. Experience living in mission-focused communities (can include intentional communities) would be very helpful.

🐐 THE ROLE: WHAT YOU’LL DO

🐓 Animal Care & System Design

  • Care for a rotating collection of gentle, guest-friendly animals (goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, pigs like Kune Kunes or Idahos, and possibly alpacas, donkeys, or mini cows)
  • Design small-scale multi-species rotational grazing systems that contribute to soil and forest health
  • Create clean, humane paddocks and daily routines for feeding, watering, bedding, fencing, and parasite management
  • Coordinate with the Livestock Manager on shared infrastructure, equipment, and veterinary support
  • Help design a trail-connected, beautiful animal space that’s safe for both animals and guests

🎓 Guest Interaction & Education

  • Be the face of the farm’s animal experience—welcoming guests, families, volunteers, and tour groups
  • Offer casual encounters (e.g., "meet the goat" moments, daily chores guests can help with)
  • Lead formal tours, talks, and workshops (free, donation-based, and paid) as the program develops
  • Work with the Executive Director on programming, signage, educational materials, and business design
  • Help guests—especially kids and families—form meaningful connections with animals, land, and farming

✔️ WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

  • Experience with small-scale livestock (poultry, sheep, goats, pigs, etc.)
  • Friendly, warm, and engaging personality
  • Comfortable talking with strangers and leading small groups
  • Strong communication and a collaborative work ethic
  • Respect for the land, animals, and all people
  • Willingness to work weekends and flex schedule during peak seasons

Preferred:

  • Experience with regenerative animal systems (e.g., rotational grazing, forest edge paddocks)
  • Background in outdoor education, guest services, childcare, or tour guiding
  • Comfort with basic infrastructure tasks (e.g., fencing, shelters, feed systems)
  • Familiarity with agritourism, agroforestry, or holistic farm systems

You’ll work closely with:

  • Executive Director – For business planning, programming, and education strategy
  • Livestock Manager – For infrastructure, animal care coordination, and grazing plans
  • Farmstay & Hospitality Team – To align guest experiences with animal interactions
  • Facilities Manager – For trail access, fencing, shelter, and water systems
  • Agroforester – To explore animal integration into food forests and forest-edge grazing
