Market Garden | Where Soil & Community Thrive

Nourishing People by Feeding the Soil

Healthy Soil, Healthy Food, Healthy Community

At Hungry World Farm, the Market Garden is more than rows of vegetables—it’s a living, breathing demonstration of how soil health is the foundation for personal and planetary well-being. Spanning two-thirds of an acre in a fertile valley basin, the garden uses a no-till, deep-compost mulch system that protects microbial life, increases carbon retention, and promotes long-term soil fertility. Raised permanent beds are enriched with on-farm compost, covered with leaf mulch, and stewarded by hands that respect the sacredness of living soil. In 2024 alone, the garden produced over 18,000 pounds of fresh, seasonal vegetables, many of which were donated to food banks and community food service organizations.

Led by Market Gardener Valerie Padilla and supported by her husband Danny, dedicated staff, interns, and volunteers, the garden is a hub of education, healing, and hospitality. Visitors learn through hands-on workshops, while interns from around the globe participate in a shared mission of cultivating life from the ground up. Chickens work compost piles beside the garden, and pollinators dance among companion flowers like marigolds and sweet alyssum. Beyond growing food, the garden fosters community, feeds families, and serves as a regenerative model for what agriculture can be.
