Crop diversity
A diversity of plants helps promote healthy soil and support healthy ecosystems.

Compost-based
Regular applications of compost feed soil biology and help to improve soil function

Minimal soil disturbance
Tillage is reduced or eliminated to promote healthy microbial communities and soil structure.
At Hungry World Farm, we believe that healthy food supports healthy people and that healthy food comes from healthy soils, land, and ecosystems. We focus on soil and ecosystem health, and we aim to grow/raise nutrient-dense food in ways that support the health of land and people.

Focuses and values of our practices
Soil organic matter
Building soil organic matter levels to improve soil structure, increase water infiltration and water holding capacity, feed soil microorganisms, improve nutrient cycling, and much more!
Minimal soil disturbance
Minimal soil disturbance through low- and no-till techniques
Integration of animals
Livestock and other animals are included as integral participants. Livestock are raised on pasture, and any additional feeds (non-GMO) are chosen with care. When possible, animal feeds are grown here at the farm.
Soil Biology
We aim to support abundant, diverse communities of soil microorganisms. This soil life promotes robust soil health, which is foundational to the health of plants and animals.
Local Resources
Using locally available resources as much as possible
Carbon Sequestration
Through photosynthesis, we aim to move carbon into the soil for long-term storage
Materials
We aspire to grow and raise food with integrity for the health of the land and the people who eat food grown here. Compost and biological inoculants are the main amendments we use to strengthen soil and plant health. We are glad to answer any questions you may have about our growing practices and livestock management!
